RAYMOND ``PAPA'' K. ANDLER

Raymond ``Papa'' K. Andler, Sr., 77, of West 4th Street,died Wednesday January 7, 2004 in his home.

He was born Oct. 1, 1926, in Duluth to Stephen and Myrtle Andler. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He married Ella Olsen Jan. 7, 1949, in Duluth. He was employed at U.S. Steel Duluth Works and later the Cement Plant until retiring in 1977. Ray was a lifemember of the V.F.W. Post #137; a member of the Good Sams Camping Club. He was a golden gloveboxer; he played in cribbage leagues for over 30 years and was a City Champion. Ray was also an avid Viking and Twins fan watching or listening to the games religiously.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Donald and Harry.

Survivors include his wife Ella ``Merm'' of 55 years, his daughters, Linda (George) Balach, Barbara (Howard) Klatzky both of Duluth; a son, Raymond (Debbie) Andler, Jr. of Blaine, Minn.; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Johnson of Salvang, Calif. andShirley of Carson City, Nev.

GATHERING: of Friends and-Family will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., with a luncheon to be served, Saturday Jan. 17, 2004, in the V.F.W. Post #137, 2024 W. Superior Street. Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorials maybe directed to the V.F.W. Post #137 or Animal Allies in Ray's name. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home.
